Latvijas Banka has prepared two special coin sets to honour the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia: "Lats Symbols in Silver" and "The Road to Latvia's National Independence". The coin sets will be available for purchase as of 8 November at Latvijas Banka Cashier's Offices and online at www.e-monetas.lv. Limited availability.
The coin set "Lats Symbols in Silver" contains two silver coins "5-lats Silver Coin" and "Silver Salmon". The lats coins are considered as one of the greatest artworks in Latvia and belong to those values that have allowed to discover and to preserve the Latvian roots through generations. The lats is a symbol connecting the history of the state of Latvia and Latvia's money since 1922, when the lats became the national currency of Latvia. The lats is included in the cultural canon of Latvia, while the design elements of the lats coins are now introduced to the world through euro coins.

The coin set "The Road to Latvia's National Independence" contains two silver coins: "Christmas Battles" and "The First Session of LPNC" that reflect the crucial events of 1917 in Latvia shaping the preconditions for the establishment of the state.
